How do you pronounce Birota?
BURR (like it’s cold outside and you need a cup of hot Smart Cocoa) - O (like oh my gosh, these Birota Foods products are awesome!) - TAH (like ahhhh, cocoa and creamer products with no preservatives and ingredients that are actually good for me).
What is the best way to use Smart Cocoa?
There really isn’t a “best” way, per se since our Smart Cocoa is so versatile but here are some of our favorites. Refer to our recipes for great methods of using our Smart Cocoa.
Hot cocoa - the serving size and effective dose for raising ketone levels is 3 tablespoons for 8 ounces of hot water or milk but we realize everyone has different taste preferences. We recommend starting with 1 tablespoon added to 4-6 ounces of water and adjust based on your taste. Be sure to add Smart Cocoa to your cup first and break up any clumps with a spoon. As you add the hot liquid, be sure to stir for at least 20-30 seconds.
Smoothies - add 1-2 tablespoons to 8-12 ounces of liquid (and other yummy ingredients) to the blender and enjoy!
Oatmeal - add 1 tablespoon per cup of oats.
Pudding - we have a great pudding recipe HERE but in general, add 1 tablespoon per cup of pudding mixture.
Brownies - who doesn’t love brownies? Depending on the yield of the recipe, add 2-3 tablespoons of Smart Cocoa per batch. We have some great no-bake and bake brownie recipes HERE.
Nut butter - if you want to add some chocolaty goodness to your nut butter, we recommend adding 1-2 tablespoons of Smart Cocoa to a jar (12-15 ounces) of your choice of nut butter.
What is the best way to use Smart Coconut Creamer?
We designed Smart Coconut Creamer to make all drinks better! It is a great addition to any hot beverage such as coffee, tea, or hot milk.
It is also fantastic in smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, and pudding!
Everyone at Birota Foods loves adding 1 tablespoon to our Smart Cocoa to make the cocoa even more creamier!
Why is their clumping in Smart Cocoa?
Our cocoa has almost double the fat as does other cocoa on the market (this is on purpose). Because fat likes to stick together, you may see easily breakable clumps in our Smart Cocoa. We do not believe in adding fillers or other junk to prevent this natural process of binding so feel free to massage your cocoa a bit before use. We recommend squeezing the bag before opening or after transferring Smart Cocoa to another, air tight container, mashing the clumps with a spoon.
What is tapioca dextrin?
Tapioca dextrin is a gluten-free fiber that helps our organic coconut milk powder stay a powder. Since coconut milk is naturally a liquid, the tapioca dextrin binds everything together.
What is acacia gum?
Similar to tapioca dextrin, it has the same function of helping our organic coconut milk powder stay a powder.
What is different about the stevia we use?
In a single stevia leaf, there are over 40 types of sweetness profiles. Most stevia on the market focuses on rebaudioside A. Our stevia is a blend of stevia glycosides that minimizes the licorice aftertaste commonly found in stevia.

Is there a cocoa without stevia?
Why yes there is! We have been listening to our fantastic customers and realize that not everyone likes stevia so we have made our awesome cocoa with all of the great functional benefits and taste minus the stevia. It’s unsweetened and the d-ribose adds a hint of sweetness to it. Try it in warm milk (oat milk is great!) or in any baking recipes, oatmeal or pudding!
