Birota Foods FAQ’s

What does Birota mean?

Birota roughly translates to bicycle. We chose this name as we are avid cyclists and believe freedom in food is the same freedom you feel when riding a bike.

Sometimes Birota is out of the item I am looking for. What should I do?

We make our products in ‘micro batches’. This is because we believe that our customers should receive the freshest food possible, but sometimes we run out. Please email sales@birotafoods.com if you would like a certain quantity of your favorite item. We are more than happy to accommodate your request.

Can I make a special order?

Yes! We can bulk pack any Birota item starting at one pound. This is a no frills option but saves money if our Smart beverage or noatmeal are part of your regular routine.

What is the best way to use Smart Cocoa?

There really isn’t a “best” way, per se since our Smart Cocoa is so versatile but here are some of our favorites.

  • Hot cocoa - the serving size and effective dose for raising ketone levels is 3 tablespoons for 8 ounces of your favorite milk. However, we realize this rich and creamy option may be a bit intense for some and suggest starting with 2 tablespoons and adjust based on taste. Be sure to add Smart Cocoa to your cup first and break up any clumps with a spoon. As you add the hot liquid, be sure to stir for at least 20-30 seconds.

  • A crowd favorite is to make Smart Cocoa ‘latte style’. Simply make your cocoa per the instructions above and top with frothed milk.

Why is there clumping in Smart Cocoa?

Simply put, we do not use sugar. Generally sugar is added to many products to reduce clumping so it mixes well into liquid. We strongly feel that sugar causes energy rollercoasters and we refuse to use it in any Birota item. You will need to whisk with a bit of vigor to make your Smart Cocoa, but trust us, it is worth it.

What is the best way to use Smart Coconut Creamer?

We designed Smart Coconut Creamer to make coffee go further. Add 1 tablespoon to hot coffee to slow down the absorption of caffeine so energy gradually rises and stay level for longer.

What is different about the stevia we use?

In a single stevia leaf, there are over 40 types of sweetness profiles. Most stevia on the market focuses on rebaudioside A. Our stevia is a blend of stevia glycosides that minimizes the licorice aftertaste commonly found in stevia.

I don’t like stevia. Which products are stevia-free?

Only one of our cocoa products has stevia for those who like just a bit of sweetness. Otherwise, all of our other products are stevia-free! Try our Unsweetened Smart Cocoa for a non-stevia cocoa and of course, our Smart Coconut Creamer and all flavors of Smart Noatmeal.

What is tapioca dextrin?

Tapioca dextrin is a gluten-free fiber that helps our organic coconut milk powder stay a powder. Since coconut milk is naturally a liquid, the tapioca dextrin binds everything together.

When should I eat Smart Noatmeal?

Well anytime of course! Seriously though, Smart Noatmeal is probably best to be used for breakfast since it is essentially replacing oatmeal. You will find a much longer energy level after eating Smart Noatmeal (versus oatmeal) and you will easily be able to make it to lunch without feeling like you are starving.

Also try Smart Noatmeal as a snack. Because our portable, single-serve packets can go anywhere, throw some in your bag, purse and have a stash at work for those low blood sugar moments throughout the day. Oh, and did you know you can mix Smart Noatmeal in its packet? Yep, check out this video.
